WORDS OF WISDOM
ResaResa provides popular sayings in Sanskrit. (Shree Aadi Varahi Stotram)
Among the sacred hymns dedicated to the Divine Mother, Shree Aadi Varahi Stotram holds a special place for its invocation of courage, protection, strength, and victory over harmful influences. Goddess Aadi Varahi is revered as one of the Saptamatrikas and represents a powerful, protective aspect of the Divine Mother.
This ten-verse stotram praises Varahi in both her fierce and compassionate forms. She is invoked as the protector of devotees, the granter of cherished desires, and the divine force that restrains hostile influences and removes fear, obstacles, sorrow, disease, and misfortune.
A central prayer in the stotram expresses the devotee’s surrender and faith:
“Dehi me sakalaan kaamaan. Vaaraahi Jagadheeshvari.
Namasthubhyam namasthubhyam. Namasthubhyam namo namah.”
“Grant me the fulfillment of all my wishes, O Varahi, Supreme Ruler of the Universe. Salutations to you, salutations to you. Again and again, I bow to you.”
Through ResaResa, this devotional presentation brings together the musical rendering of the stotram, narration, Sanskrit transliteration, and English meaning, allowing listeners to appreciate both the beauty of the verses and their devotional significance.
The project is rendered by Dr. Lakshmi Menon, composed by Sri. Perumbavoor G. Ravindranath, with narration by Smt. Remmia Menon, and is presented as part of ResaResa’s continuing effort to make Sanskrit literature and devotional works accessible to audiences around the world.

(Shakuntalam)
Compared to Kalidasa’s poetic works, his plays have garnered greater appeal among the general public. Among his dramas, Abhijnana Shakuntalam is the most celebrated and widely translated across various languages. Kalidasa based this play on the Shakuntalopakhyana (the story of Shakuntala) found in the Adi Parva of the Mahabharata. Transforming this simple storyline into a profoundly captivating drama is a testament to Kalidasa’s unparalleled literary genius. According to legend, after composing Shakuntalam, Kalidasa refined and revised its content repeatedly, and it was only after eighteen years of refinement that this masterpiece was finally published.
Among the exquisitely beautiful scenes in Shakuntalam, the fourth act is considered the finest. Within this act, four verses—6, 9, 17, and 18—are regarded as the most outstanding by scholars. A famous verse highlights this:
“Among literary forms, drama is the most enchanting; among dramas, Shakuntalam is the finest; within Shakuntalam, the fourth act is the most delightful; and within that, the four verses shine supreme.”
Even after two thousand years, Shakuntalam continues to captivate poetry lovers and literary enthusiasts worldwide, underscoring its enduring greatness. Through Resaresa, these four shlokas are being beautifully presented—an experience to be cherished and enjoyed.

(Yaksha Prasnam)
